Frank Fairfield in Washington Square

One of my favorite artist, Frank Fairfield stopped by NY to play a few shows. Before playing tonight in Manhattan he played a small set in Washington Square right in front of my school. He played an amazing set and left the crowd, which I think was made up by a lot of passer-byers, impressed. I'm looking forward to seeing him tomorrow night because he will be playing with Blind Boy Paxton, another amazing performer. Here's a video below I recorded of Frank's performance and a video of Blind Boy Paxton.

After the performance my housemate and I had gelato from Grom close to the park.

The Edgemere Letters

Yesterday I headed over to Rockaway Beach to Edgemere to help photograph one of my housemates artist walk. You can click on the link to get more information on it. http://theedgemereletters.net/

The beach and surrounding area was a strange mixture of desolate wasteland next to a pristine boardwalk. The walk was truly amazing.

After the walk we had a picnic at the beach with lots of good food included stuff peppers with couscous and feta cheese.

Just how amazing is this sunset! The clouds look so surreal.

After we left the beach on the drive back you could the Manhattan Skyline in the far distance. I tried to capture it but since I was in the car moving rather fast it was a bit difficult. One of the interesting things that we did notice was these two poles sticking out from the railings that gave a silhouette of the twin towers to the city (depending on where you are standing), whether intentional or not it was pretty interesting. You can kind of make it out in the picture below:

School, Samosas, and Italian Coffee

This week has been particularly hectic with all three class sessions taking place. So I thought I would just recap the week. The picture above was taken after I got of class. It's Washington Square Park which is right outside the library. The picture has the arch and the Empire State Building in the back.

On Tuesday I found out I got the internship at the New Museum so I'm excited to start. On Wednesday I had an interview at Top Shop. When I arrived there was over 60 people in line to interview. I decided not to really care about the actual interview. But surprisingly they liked me and are calling me back for a second interview.
On Thursday night I was heading back home when I stopped by this bakery called Kabirs which is a block away from my stop. I went in to by a samosa which is filled with potato and other goodness and are only one dollar. The two ladies working at the bakery asked me if I wanted a chicken one and I told them I only had a dollar. They decided I should try it and ended up giving me four for the dollar!

One of the new housemates is from Italy and he makes Italian coffee every morning. It's really strong but really good. Yesterday he taught me how to make it. Needless to say I spent Friday cleaning the kitchen to work off the energy.

Nick Cave Exhibit

Since I got lost I ended up around a lot of galleries. One of which had Nick Cave artwork. His work was really interesting and had a lot of detail in it. I would probably have spent more time in the gallery but I had to head back home.

The Great Ice Cream Caper

Today I headed to the library to read one of the textbooks that was out of stock at the bookstore. Unfortunately when I arrived the two copies available were checked out. So what's left to do but go find some ice cream. Thanks to Yelp I headed to a Lula's Sweet Apothecary in the East Village. No thanks to Yelp it was closed. On the way over I saw these cool things. Apparently crocheted items are a running theme...

After I found the ice cream shop closed I tried another placed called Big Gay Ice Cream Truck which is  close to the Union Station Farmer's Market.  But when I got there I read their tweet saying that the truck would be out of commission for the next few day. (o_0).  What made it worse was that they had an actual store that was a block away from where I was originally. Moral of the story...no more YELP. After this I decided to go to the Chelsea Market and get something to eat. I went to Hale and Hearty Soups, but got a Turkey Chibata Sandwich since it was so hot and soup was the last thing I would eat. From there I ended up going to High Line Park, which I thought would be worth going to again since I didn't take any photos last time.

After my late lunch I headed back to the train station to head back to Brooklyn. The photo below was taken coming right off the stairs from the park. People attach notes of Hope. The bad thing about heading back to the train was I got lost. Fortunately it was an amazing thing that I did....

Flushing Meadows Park and how I became a Meme

Today I went to Flushing Meadows for another Creek and Shrine walk but this time to help photograph the event. Before getting to Queens however the Q train which I would normally take up to Manhattan was closed for quite a few stops. This required me to travel by foot to a shuttle bus that took about 30 mins to get to the next available running stop. Despite this it gave me a chance to see more of Ditmas Park, which is really amazing with older beautiful homes.
The video below is on the Number 7 train headed to Flushing Meadows Park

So here is the part where I became a meme. I arrived early and it was rather hot so I headed to a local vendor close to the parks entrance to buy an ice cream. The minute I got it in my hand it started to pour!  I tried to look for the nearest cover but there was nothing to get to. Then I saw a bunch of people hovered just outside the bathroom.  Running towards the bathroom I imagined everyone saw me just like the picture above running in the rain with an ice cream in hand. The picture below is from the inside of the bathroom.
Luckily it stopped raining and the walk went as planned. It was again an amazing walk. Hopefully some of the pictures came out decent. I will update the blog with a link once they are up. After the walk she handed out these cool momentos.

Brando and Books

Today I headed over to Union Station to get some textbooks. On the way to the Barnes and Noble I saw a man playing piano with a little dog named Brando wearing a sombrero.
